At A Glance of Ummi Maktum Voice

Ummi Maktum Voice (UMV) was established on February 14, 1999. UMV began its da’wah career by singing Islamic songs, hoping to give a positive contribution from the chanted verses. Through this nasheed  (Islamic Song), , UMV continues to stay in touch from one place to another.

In the midst of its da’wah journey, UMV had a concern about the large number of Indonesian Muslim blind people who did not yet have a Braille Quran. The high level of illiteracy in Braille Qur’an in Indonesia inspired UMV to create a program called literacy eradication of braille Qur’an.

“Opening the Eyes of the Heart, Presenting the Qur’an in the Heart” is a line of words that becomes an encouragement for the movement of UMV steps. Always have the spirit of presenting Ilahi’s verses so that blind people are all corners of the country can become the energy. The Kalam of the Holy Qur’an in Braille form which is awaited by blind people is still rarely owned privately because the price is relatively high. This is also the reason for the high rate of illiteracy of the Braille Quran for the blind people in Indonesia.

In 2005, not only nasheed was sung, UMV began to socialize the Braille Literacy Eradication Program. The program was welcomed and supported by various parties, starting from Hidayat Nur Wahid while serving as Chair of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia Anggito Abimanyu (Head of the Indonesian Fiscal Policy Agency), Ratih Sanggarwati (Artist), Syafei Antonio (Syari’ah Economic Expert), Ari Ginanjar Agustian (Head of ESQ Leadership Center) and other figures. Alhamdulillah, in the same year, UMV succeeded in producing and distributing 100 sets of Braille Quran to various regions in West Java. Bandung, Cimahi, Garut, Kuningan, Ciamis, Majalengka and Tasikmalaya are cities that receive the distribution of Braille Quran accompanied by their guidance. It did not stop there, UMV continued to move to increase its program to 500 sets of Al-Quran Braille during the period 2006 – 2008. Alhamdulillah, with the support of various parties, the UMV short-term program was reached. Five hundred sets of Al-Quran Braille have reached 500 blind people scattered in various regions on the island of Java, even outside Java, namely Kalimantan and Makassar. At the end of the period, UMV was officially registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the notary office of Irma Rachmawati, S.H with No. 19 dated March 14, 2007 and was registered with the Government of Bandung City with At the end of the period, UMV was officially registered as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the notary office of Irma Rachmawati, S.H with No. 19 dated March 14, 2007 and was registered with the Government of Bandung City with No. 19 / BPM / 2007.

Considering that there are still a large number of blind people who do not have Braille Quran, the UMV NGO continues its steps. The Braille Quran Illiteracy Program does not stop there. As long as there are still blind people who are still waiting for the Braille Quran, during that time the NGO UMV will continue to fight for programs that have been designed and run with the motto “Opening Eyes, Presenting the Quran in the Heart”.
